What Are You Giving Up?

Just last week, the majority of us celebrated Valentine’s Day. Some celebrated it in a more traditional sense by taking a loved one to dinner or buying cards and chocolates. The singletons, such as myself, may have gone for dinner too, but with friends or family and then a nice, big glass of wine to calm the sense of ‘another year all alone.’

This week we celebrate the forgotten celebration of Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day and Ash Wednesday follows. Most of us forget what the holiday truly stands for. It is a Christian festival that marks the beginning of Lent. Lent being 40 days in which we are supposed to give up something we enjoy. But what will you give up?

Chocolate? Crisps? Maybe even alcohol? For most students, that is just an impossible dream, or should I say, nightmare? There are theories that say, if you try something once a day for 30 days, you will eventually like it; just as it takes 30 days to get used to something new, such as a rearrangement of furniture. So if you spend 30 days not eating something, your body will learn to hate it?

I will spend the next 40 days AND MORE reviewing everything that I can, just to make this world a more judgmental place, because that’s how committed I am.

So watch and follow this space, as I plan on moving on to greater things on the reviewing front. Possibly restaurants? Places? Countries? But suggestions are welcome.

Happy Pancake Day!
