Astronautics’ ‘Everybody Knows’ Music Video Review

November 23, 2014

On November 22nd 2014, Cayey Puerto Rico-based band, Astronautics, released the music video for the much-loved track, ‘Everybody Knows’; a song of catchy tempos and chaotic rhythms, a Strokes meets Jimmy Hendrix experience.

From the first second it feels personal. A bit like a rodeo backstage video and then when the vocals start it’s clear that it’s a music video, but still has a really up close and personal touch.

It invites you in with a raw journey-like experience with a taste of country. I’m very particular about music videos keeping shots and sequences in keeping with the music and beats. There are some significant moments where this is achieved superbly; the shots and music illustrate each other in perfect sync.

Just as I hoped, the energy builds visually as the song does towards the end. The closing shot of lead guitarist, Neal, brings the video together perfectly.

Comparing my original album review with the visual depiction, I actually refer to this song as working as a piece of complete chaos, which is evidently shown in the video, with rapid shot changes, fast-paced motions and live concert footage. I also note that the chorus dips into a slightly country feel, which is shown modestly and tastefully with Neal singing in a grassy location, but this isn’t made out like a full-blown Billy Ray Cyrus knee-slapping sequence. Just simply an underlying motif; it gives the video a few intimate moments with the songwriter himself.

Overall, this unique music video, and I still stand by the song being one of my favourites, has illustrated what is clearly an energetic piece with concealed personal elements.
