Don’t Trust the Writers for ABC – Don’t Trust the B. in Apt. 23 Review

Channel 4 has seduced yet another comedy from the US.Image

This new show, Don’t Trust the B**** in Apartment 23, stars Krysten Ritter, who I only know from  Confessions of a Shopaholic. In Confessions of a Shopaholic, Ritter plays caring BFF to Isla Fisher, but in this new series, she plays the appropriately titled “bitch” of the apartment building.

Premiering this Thursday at 9:30pm on E4, I decided to take a sneak peak at the first episode myself, before fully consuming the rest of this currently small series; as it is only just about to swamp America with episode seven.

From the first episode, it is fairly clear that this has no real edge on most other comedies. The only difference is that the protagonist doesn’t want friends, but wants to prove to ‘new’ New Yorkers what a bitch she and the city can truly be.

Beginning with the ending of an episode is an easy way to stop a viewer from switching off. You are immediately encouraged to ask the question “but why?” The first episode displays a battle of oestrogen; much like the sneaky bitch fights that were so beautifully expelled in the film Mean Girls.

Of course, the moral of the pilot is the tale of the frenemies, who will eventually do many heart warming things which secretly whisper “I love you, friend.”

But before ripping the plot down to the bone, the humour within the script isn’t a total waste of time. A few small chortles here and there, but nothing to be lolling about to your bezzie the next day.

I do, therefore, add this to my pile of easy watching. Along with How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory, this will become a series to catch up on when there is very little to do in my already pathetic excuse for a life. America; thank you, just another reason to procrastinate!
