Beginning it’s first episode with some very crude and ‘punny’ jokes, 2 Broke Girls is a new American sit com which has finally flown it’s way over to be hosted by the UK’s comedy capital, E4. From the executive producer of Sex and the City, great things will be expected of this new comedy.

2 Broke Girls is based in Brooklyn, New York, and is about, you guessed it, two girls who are low on funds. It begins with a main focus on streetwise, Max Black, who works two jobs to get by. We are then introduced to uptown girl, Caroline Channing, who is having a run of bad luck and is forced to give waitressing a shot.

2 Broke Girls has a mature humour that sets it apart from your average American sit com, although it still reverts back to the poorly scripted work of it’s predecessors. It contributes to a genre of American sit-com television that I refer to as ‘easy watching.’ If you’re bored and nothing else is on, I’m sure E4 has on something like How I Met Your Mother or The Big Bang Theory, which will kill an hour or two. Although this doesn’t mean it’s a bad show, but it certainly doesn’t hold a candle to classic, British, sarcastic humour.

With the occasional witty joke, 2 Broke Girls isn’t the worst thing that E4 brought us from The United States. However, bringing together two girls whose lives are worlds apart has been done many a time before.

This is a show that I wouldn’t dismiss but I don’t acclaim it either, just another show to pass the time. Possibly planning a second series in America, 2 Broke Girls could have great things built for it here in the UK due to it’s US success, but let’s face it, what cliché US comedy doesn’t do well in America?

Er… MOST OF THEM? Do some research.

    • I approved your comment because a lot of comedies don’t make it all over the world. But how many American sit coms are flooding our TV’s with garbage jokes, when British sit coms take a back seat?
